Community Service
Community service as part of our Zonta mission to advance the status of women is integral part of Zonta membership.

Zonta Suffolk Scholarship Programs

As part of our commitment to support women in our community, Zonta Suffolk participates in several scholarship programs that are part of Zonta International’s overall programs.

Young Women in Public Affairs Program

recognizes young women committed to leadership in public policy, government, and volunteer organizations.

Amelia Earhart Fellowships

were established in 1938 in honor of Amelia Earhart, famed pilot and Zonta club member. The Fellowships are granted annually to women pursuing graduate Ph.D./doctoral degrees in aerospace-related sciences and aerospace-related engineering.

Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship program was established to encourage undergraduate women to enter careers and to seek leadership positions in business-related fields. The program ultimately seeks to influence business decisions that positively affect women by increasing the number of women in executive positions in the field of business management.

Zonta International
Through the International Service programs, Zontians support International Service projects. These projects are identified by Zonta leadership based on priority issues and/or geographical area need. Zontians worldwide embrace the International Service Fund through their generous donations and fund raising efforts. In addition, they often use the issues addressed by the projects as platforms for education and action within their own communities and countries. Zonta International has work on such issues as:

  • HIV/Aids Awareness in Subsaharan Afrrica
  • Trafficking in Women
  • Famine in Niger
  • Preventing violence against women in India
  • Reducing the incidence of female genital circumcision in Burkina Faso
  • Eliminating maternal and neonatal tetanus in Nepal
