ZONTA SUFFOLK NEWS

Summer Letter From Phoebe and Tricia...

July 14, 2008

Dear Sister Zontians:

Just a quick note to touch base and let you know what's going on so far as we enter the new biennium.  Following on the heals of a successful 2006-2008 and our Zonta Zillions fund raiser, Phoebe and I are thinking about our the next 2 years.  As we mentioned at the June meeting, we have set our theme for the first year of the new biennium as “Who We Are and How We Serve.”   We are looking at new ways to jazz up our meetings while at the same time focusing on the nuts and bolts of what it means to be a Zontian who thinks globally and acts locally while we support each other, the club, and ZI.

As part of our local and international service, we have to create our new committees.  In keeping with our having co-presidents, we think it would be helpful to set up all the committees with two-person teams.  This should lighten the overall load on each team member and allow us all to share in the challenges and successes to come.

The mandatory committees to be chaired are:

• Status of Women Service Committee (Woman of the Year)

• Organization, Membership and Classification Committee (with VP Marie Hilditch)

• Public Relations and Communications Committee

• United Nations Committee

• Finance Committee (with treasurer, Sue Eccleston)

Club committees include:

• Zonta International Strategies to Prevent Violence Against Women (ZISVAW)

• Local Service Projects Committee

• Local Legislative Awareness and Advocacy

• Current International Service project(s)

Scholarship committees include:

• Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarships

• Young Women in Public Affairs (YWPA) Awards

• Amelia Earhart Fellowships

Additionally, we have to set up our monthly programs. Out of the 10 meetings we hold each year, we have seven that we have the opportunity to plan for presentations / speakers / programs.  Again in keeping with the idea of sharing the load and serving each other, we’d love to have one or two people team up to plan the program for each of the seven meetings.  This will constitute our Programming Committee. With such a creative and intelligent group of women who have such diverse backgrounds there is no end of possibilities for what we might do with each program!

If you’d like to co-chair a committee or program a meeting, please send an email or call either Phoebe  or Tricia and let us know!

Finally, don’t forget that in just two short weeks we are getting together for some summer fun!  Marie Hilditch has graciously agreed to host a late afternoon gathering at her home.  We will be sending you a few more details via email shortly but please mark your calendars for Thursday, July 24th.  This is strictly a chance to enjoy each others company so we hope you’ll come on out.

We look forward to hearing from you about committees, programs, and anything else you’d like to share with us that will help us make our next two years successful, productive and enjoyable as we explore “Who We Are and How we Serve.”

See you on the 24th at Marie’s!

A Short Note From Your New Co-Presidents...

June 2008

Hi Ladies:

As part of our new biennium our theme for the year to come is: Zonta: Who We Are / Who We Serve.  An exciting plan is being created for a new look at all the levels of what it means to be a Zontian.

Additionally, we are adding some new and exciting programs and innovations during our meetings.

We hope you'll join us for the fun and in service of our Zonta mission!

See you soon,

Phoebe & Tricia
